“One-third of brides marrying in the US this year will be wearing a polyester wedding dress from David’s Bridal that costs as little as $99.”
I found this fact so interesting, that I went directly to David’s Bridal to see what I could get for $99. I have to say, the dresses I found at that price point were not bad at all — many of them were simple and stylish. In fact, here’s a picture of my favorite.
Granted, it doesn’t have many frills, and if you look close enough you could probably tell it’s polyester, but there were a lot of dresses on the site, typically in the $399-$599 range, that I believe could stand up to many designer dresses costing ten times as much. This was one I liked — lacy, sexy and looks like it could be designer.
Now if you’re in the market for a more high-end dress, I’d still check out David’s Bridal. They have their Oleg Cassini line that looks to be their top-of-the-line brand. These dresses are somewhere in the $950 to $1,150 and tend to be the most ornate. Here’s an example.
So I get it. I get why all these brides are choosing David’s — you get to spend less on the dress without sacrificing style and more on the wedding. In this economy, make mucho sense to me.
If I were a high-end wedding dress designer, I might be running a little scared because this David might really be Goliath.
