I was just talking to Marleine Pacilio, owner of Paper Olive, a fabulous couture stationary company based in Los Angeles.
When Mareine was a bride, she wanted to do something a little less traditional with her wedding but couldn’t find an invitation to reflect that. Because she has a flair for design, she tackled many of the design elements of her invitation herself, then used the colors of her invitation — bright orange and green — as the featured colors of her wedding.
Enjoying the invitation process, Marleine started designing invitations for friends and family, and before she had her company, The Knot called and wanted to feature one of her invitations in their magazine. That’s when she knew she had to do this professionally and started Paper Olive.
Marleine’s goal is to create beautiful invitations that have a modern spin. Her favorite thing to do is to take something traditional — a pattern, a color, a typeface — and mash it up with something contemporary and casual. She wants people to be inspired by the invitations she creates and also to find them fun. According to Marleine, you want your guests to have a great time at your wedding, and the invitation sets the tone.
Marleine will either help her clients select one of her existing designs, take one of her designs and alter it to their liking, or create something completely new. Plus, she will go as basic or over-the-top as her clients want.
For those of you who live in Los Angeles, and want to see her invitations in person, head over to the Bridal Bar where she is one of their featured stationers.
