Wait until you see how adorable these BBQ grill cookies are! They are perfect for your summer BBQs. Your guests will be impressed and you don’t need to be an expert in cookie decorating to make them!
BBQ Grill Cookies DIY
Supplies:
- Sugar cookie dough — store bought or make your own. Here’s our sugar cookie recipe.
- 2.5 inch round cookie cutter
- Parchment paper
- Pencil
- Chocolate chips
- Ziplock bag
- White frosting
- Wilton red food color spray
- Assorted candies — Swedish Fish, Gummy Bears, and Spongebob Gummy Krabby Patties
Step 1 — Make your favorite “cutout” sugar cookie recipe.
Step 2 — Roll your dough out on a floured surface. Using a 2.5” round cookie cutter, cut circle cookies from your dough. Bake according to the recipes instructions.
Step 3 — While your cookies are baking, take a piece of parchment paper, and draw circles on it with a pencil using your 2.5” circle cookie cutter. Flip the parchment paper over.
Step 4 — Melt chocolate chips in a microwave in 30 second intervals and pour into a ziploc baggie. Snip a teeny tiny corner of the bag for piping.
Step 5 — Using the chocolate in the ziploc bag, trace the circles on the parchment paper. Next, draw lines across the circle (as pictured) to create the grill. Make sure the chocolate lines connect to the circle.
Step 6 — Freeze the chocolate grills until ready to use.
Step 7 – Make the buttercream frosting.
Here’s my go-to butter frosting recipe for cupcakes and cookies:
- 6 tablespoons salted butter, at room temperature
- 3-4 tablespoons whole milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups powdered sugar
In a mixer, combine all ingredients until smooth.
Step 8 — Time to decorate! Spread a thin layer of frosting on each cookie.
Step 9 — Using “red” color mist, spray the frosting on the cookie until red. You can also use red food coloring to make the frosting red, I just liked the textured look the spray gave the frosting!
Step 1 — Remove grills from freezer. Place one grill per cookie on top of the frosting. Now to add the food!
I used Gummy Bears, Swedish Fish and Sponge Bob Krabby Patties. Simply slide the gummy candies onto toothpicks and place your candy kabobs into the grills.
That’s it! Pretty easy right? And don’t they look great!!
