Instructions
Step 1:
- Soak the wooden skewers in water. It will make it easier to slide the candy onto the kabobs, but dry them off before adding the candy.
Step 2:
- Fill the candy kabobs about ¾ full. The amount of candy on each kabob depends on the size of each piece of candy.
Step 3:
- Start by laying out the candy next to the wooden skewer to get an idea of what order you want to slide the candy on the kabob. Sounds crazy right? Trust me! My first attempt was a mess! If at all possible, only slide the candy on once. Keep in mind the color combinations you would like to use.
Step 4:
- We found that 8-9 pieces of candy fit on each kabob. Choose candy that is a little thicker so that it does not fall apart when sliding it onto the skewer.
Notes
We found some great candy in the bulk section at our local grocery store. The gummy grapefruit, nordic fish (Swedish fish), orange slices, gummy peaches, gumdrops, and taffy were all in the bulk bins. The rainbow Airhead Extremes, Shock Tongues and Kollision Candy we found in the normal candy isle.
What worked best? Most of the candy worked pretty well! The Kollision Candy was a little tough sliding onto the kabobs but I loved how it looked!
For the Airhead Extreme and Shock Tongue candy, do an accordion fold before sliding onto the skewer.
It was super fun shopping for all the colorful candy. They will make the perfect party favors for my kiddos’ birthdays. If you buy in the bulk section at your local grocery you will be pleasantly surprised at how affordable these are to make.
