Kid-Friendly New Year's Eve party ideas

Laura Aguirre from Laura’s Little Party is here with some New Year’s Eve party ideas so you can celebrate the start of 2014 with your whole family!

We love having people over to help us count down to midnight. Most of our friends have children, and we like to include everyone in our celebrations. So here are my tips for creating a simple, fun, kid-friendly New Year’s party!

Tip 1 – Pull out the Karaoke machine

Karaoke is such a perfect party activity for both kids and adults. My children love to sing, and I’m certain they’ll have a blast singing along with their friends. Plus, I know a few adults who would never pass up a chance at the mic.

Tip 2 – Set up an easy kids’ craft

I also recommend setting up an easy DIY craft, like these “create your own party horns,” to keep the kids occupied until the final hours!

I bought some inexpensive party horns from my local 99cent Only store, along with silver tinsel. Then I went online and printed out different patterned paper in the colors of my choice.

This is a really simple craft to assemble, and it will keep your younger guests busy.

Supplies:

Step 1: Cut the paper in the length of the horn. It’s ok if it isn’t an exactly lined up.

Step 2: Cover the horn with paper, and fasten it with clear tape.

Step 3: Add your tinsel, or embellishment of choice to the bottom of your horn. I was able to attach the tinsel by using 2-sided tape.

Tip 3 – Serve easy, kid-friendly treats

Trying to keep the sugar to a managable level, I’m planning to serve cookies, milk, and cupcakes this year at our party.

I found some darling mini martini glasses at Walmart, and knew they’d be perfect to serve milk in. I put a cookie on top for a little added touch. I’m going to serve the milk & cookies on a drink cart that I dressed up with a sequined table runner from HomeGoods.

Cupcakes are my favorite party treat. To continue with my New Year’s theme, I’m topping the cupcakes with a “2014” topper from Creativities Galore, and mini disco balls for a little added sparkle. A little glitz and glam will definitely get your guest in the mood to celebrate!

Tip 4 – Find an easy party favor that can also work as an activity

I found a package of champagne bottle bubbles on clearance at Walmart. I knew they’d work great as inexpensive party favors for the kids, and a little less messy than confetti at midnight!
