Kristen and Missy from Sweetly Chic Events & Designs are back with another cool DIY… Halloween-inspired tissue paper pom pom cake toppers to decorate your Halloween cakes! 

Cake toppers are a fun, inexpensive and easy way to take a basic cake from boring to beautiful without breaking the bank! These frilly and fun pom pom cake toppers can be personalized by using different colors and patterns!

We chose black and gold for a chic take on a Halloween cake! Follow these quick and easy steps to create your own Pom Pom Cake Toppers!

Supplies:

• Several sheets of tissue paper
• Thin Ribbon
• Paper Straws
• Scissors
• Hot glue gun

 

Follow these quick and simple steps to make your own Pom Pom Cake Toppers:

1.) Start by layering your sheets of tissue paper and folding it accordion style, about 1-2′ wide, similar to folding a paper fan. The more sheets of tissue paper you use, the fluffier your pom poms will be.

 

2.) Once your tissue paper is folded, cut your strip into 2 equally sized pieces. The smaller your pieces, the smaller your pom poms will be.

 

3.) This will leave you with 2 small pieces of tissue paper, which will be the basis for your pom pom.

4.) Next, trim your ends into an oval shape. You can also trim into a point for a different look!

5.) Next, tightly tie your ribbon in the center of your paper, being careful to not bend the paper or leave any slack.

6.) Trim any excess ribbon and repeat for your second pom pom.

7.) Next, begin fluffing up your pom pom by separating the layers of tissue paper and lifting them.

8.) Once all of the pieces are fluffed, it will leave you with a petite pom pom!

9.) Repeat step 7 for your second pom pom. This will leave you with two complete pom poms.

10) With a dot of hot glue, secure your pom poms to your paper straws. If you don’t have paper straws on hand you could easily substitute lollipop sticks or even wooden skewers!

Add your pom pom toppers to your cake and you have a fun and easy way to take that plain bakery cake from simple to chic!
