Kristen and Missy from Sweetly Chic Events & Designs are back with another DIY… this stylish pinata tutorial that will add a touch of whimsy and class to your next party!
What says “party!” better than a pinata?! Pinatas are back in a chic and fun new way — making their way from children’s parties to even the trendiest of adult occasions. This contemporary take on the classic pinata is a fun and easy way to add a little extra style to your next event, and the best part is, you can make one yourself!
Supplies:
- Paper Mache letter
- Tissue paper
- Scissors
- Glue gun
- Candy!
Directions:
Select a paper mache letter or a shape for your pinata (we found ours at Jo-ann Fabric. Cut a small hole in the base of your letter and fill it up with your favorite candy. We chose pink shimmer gumballs from Sweet Works and added some sequins to the mix for a little extra sparkle! Once you have filled your letter with the desired amount of candy, seal it up with a bit of glue.
Gather your tissue paper. We chose an ombre pattern, but you can choose any color combination you like.
Fold your tissue paper in half, leaving the folded seam at the top. Carefully cut a 2-3 inch strip of the paper
Take your 2-3 inch strip of paper and cut strips vertically, being careful to leave a bit of space at the top of the tissue paper. This will make it easier to adhere the paper to your letter.
With a hot glue gun, adhere the first color of the fringed paper to the letter, starting at the bottom.
Repeat step 4, adding each layer so that it slightly overlaps the previous color/layer.
Trim off any overhanging strands of fringe and display your pinata!
Impress your guests by using your beautiful new pinata as a fun centerpiece or break it open and enjoy the sweets inside!
Thanks, Missy & Kristen, I love your modern spin on an old party favorite!
