How to Wrap Things Beautifully

I’m a sucker for beautiful packaging, so I was very excited to stumble upon the Packagery, a shop on Etsy. They sell everything for party favor packaging, from boxes to labels to tags to twine.

Here are some of my favorite items from their store:  favor boxes, tags, ribbon, twist ties, library cards, and garlands.

If you’ve done a pretty party favor, please email me a photo at jillian@catchmyparty.com so I can do a blog post about it.

TRENDS: Bug Themed Parties on Catch My Party

We’ve gotten some great bug parties on our site.

The great thing about a bug party is that it’s a pretty open-ended theme so there’s lots of room for creativity, plus it’s got just enough squeamishness to make things interesting.

Take a look at these parties and see how fun bugs can be.

DIY Tutorial From a Catch My Party User — How to Make a Tool Belt Party Favor

Christine from Following Phubie made these adorable tool belts for all her guests at her her son  Camden’s  Under Construction Birthday Party.

I asked Christine if she would share how she made them, so she put together this fabulous tutorial for us.  Thank you, Christine!

So here’s what Christine had to say…

For Camden’s construction theme birthday party, I made tool belts with 3 compartments to hold pretend hammers, wrenches, and pliers. They’re not just great for carrying tools. The kids use them to lug Legos, crayons, and little cars.

To construct a tool belt for your little builder, all you’ll need is some fabric and ribbon.

  1. Cut fabric into two 13 3/4″ W x 14 3/4″ H pieces.
  2. Cut two 18″ long pieces of ribbon.
  3. Pin ribbon 3/4″ from the top edge of the left and right sides of the printed fabric.
  4. Place the solid fabric, front side down, over the printed fabric, and then pin together.
  5. Sew along the edges using a 1/4″ seam allowance. Be sure to sew over the ribbon at least twice and leave about a 4″ gap at the top.
  6. Turn the fabric inside out.
  7. With the solid side facing up, fold the bottom over until it’s 3 1/4″ from the top.
  8. To make the different compartments, sew along the left and right edges. Then sew another line down the middle and one 3 1/8″ from the right.
  9. Finally, hand stitch the opening along the top.

Wow, Christine, what a great project.  I love how the final result is both cute and functional.    Thank you again for sharing this.

DIY Tutorial From a Catch My Party Member – How to Make Homemade Body Scrub Favors

Erin S made these body scrub favors from scratch for her guests at her Kelsi’s Lemon + Lime Themed Bridal Shower.

Erin also put together a great tutorial on her blog, Two More Seconds, describing how she did it.  Here’s the excerpt…

  • First Erin bought 4 oz jelly jars and designed labels to fit on the top of them.  She printed them 12 to a page on sticker paper and cut them out in circles.
  • For the sugar scrub she made a huge bowl of it by starting with 8 cups of white sugar and then adding olive oil to the sugar and mixing with a whisk until it had a gritty, but still slightly goopy, texture.
  • Next she added the zest and juice of about 3 fresh lemons, and then also added a few squirts of lemon juice from the fridge.
  • She filled the jelly jars and then shredded more zest on top …. it ended up taking a lot of lemon scent to cover up the distinct olive oil smell.
  • The one thing she learned was to NOT use a mixture of white and brown sugar for the sugar scrub.  Just something about the brown sugar wasn’t soaking up the olive oil creating a nasty, congealed mess.  Plus it was a gross brownish gray color and not the pretty light yellow that worked better with her theme. :)

Thanks Erin for the great tutorial and if you want to read about more DIY projects Erin did for Kelsi’s bridal shower, read her post here.

Happy Tape – Beautiful Japanese Masking Tape

I can’t believe I’ve only now discovered Happy Tape.

It’s Japanese masking tape in the most beautiful colors and patterns.  The 10 packs of tape sell for about $36, and the individual rolls sell for about $5.50.

This would work great on presents, favors, invitations, party labels, you name it.  It makes me feel creative just looking at it.

Here are some of my favorite tape collections, but check out their site for many more options…

It’s Pool Party Time!

Believe it or not, here in LA, we’ve had one of the coldest summers on record.  This week, however, the weather has changed and it’s starting to get hot!

So in honor of good weather, here are some of my favorite pool party ideas from Etsy.

First, an invitation from Lilly Mae Designs.

Next a banner from IE Creations.

Some DIY printable pool party decorations from Paper and Cake.

Pool party cupcake toppers from Toadally Cute Products.

And to make your cupcakes even more decadent, how about some fondant cupcake toppers from Kids Cakes.

A large galvanized tub to keep your drinks cool from brodyandma.

And so no one mixes up their drink cups, here are some chalkboard tumblers from Party Bzz.

Some wooden boats to decorate your pool from duckduckgoosetoys.

And to add a little excitement and fragrance to your party, how about these fizzy pool bombs from Les Treasure.

And finally, so no one goes home empty-handed, some flip flop cookie favors from Whimsical Originals DB.

And shouldn’t the kids get something extra?  Personalized beach pails from Bumble Bee Lane.

Stay cool and happy swimming!

DIY S’mores Party Favors

I stumbled upon this great summer party favor idea at Tiny Prints and had to share — DIY s’mores kits.  (Just writing those words makes me hungry.)

Here’s how pretty their favors look:

DIY s'mores party favors

And to make them, all you need is this:

Supplies for your s'mores

What I like about these favors is that they’re inexpensive and easy to make, they’re kid and adult friendly (who doesn’t love a s’more?), and while they’d work great at a “camping” themed party, they could really work at any summer party.

I know I’d be psyched to go home with one of these!
